Welcome to MatchTips!
MatchTips, a newsletter from MatchMaker FundRaising Software, provides fundraising tips and technology information to nonprofit organizations. This issue discusses information and advice regarding the courage to ask, funding models and Twollars. Below are helpful tips that will enhance your organization's fundraising.
The Courage to Ask -- and other board imperatives
Written by Larry C. JohnsonThe comment, “the curtains are on fire” should have
roused the complacent board members from their stupor, but such was not
to be. That, at least, is the assessment of the executive director with
whom I spoke last week concerning the plight of her agency--with it's
revenue streams headed dramatically south.
The story she related to me was, unfortunately, all too familiar of
late. Her board will look anywhere-everywhere for funding—or even
an explanation for no funding—to anything or anyone other than
themselves. Spending money on marketing and image studies, instructing
the executive director to “go out and find it” and certainly
bemoaning the state of the economy—but heaven forbid that the onus
for giving and getting be placed on the board. "No one said we
would have to raise money."
Trying to Grow Your Fundraising Program – Check Out FEP
Written by Diana V. Hoyt, CFRE
The Fundraising Effectiveness Project was started in the fall of 2006. The Project and its subsequent outcomes have been the direct result of eleven competing software firms sitting down together, creating a survey tool, and then spending their company’s resources to integrate the survey into their software. These companies then went a step further and enabled the survey data to be electronically dispatched to the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C. for statistical analysis.

Written by Jan Masaoka
Do
you have a hard time getting board members to meetings? Justice Now, a
California organization working in women's prison issues, has ten board
members, of whom six are imprisoned. There is much to learn from them
about involving board members in strategic decision-making, about board
member mentoring of staff, and about how board members can raise money
from their peers in unexpected circumstances. In this issue Board
Treasurer Misty Rojo and Co-Founder/Executive Director Cynthia Chandler
talk with Blue Avocado.
That's Cool

MatchMaker FundRaising Software
As a vendor, I attend
trade shows and conferences throughout the year. Every
now and then, I run across something so cool that I need to share it
with everyone. While it is usually something
that would help a lot of my clients, it isn’t necessarily for
every nonprofit, so keep in mind what your organization is trying to
accomplish with your fundraising plan.
