I have become a Criminal Minds and CSI junkie. Some of the stories are horrific and emotionally brutal. For me, it is all about the puzzle – putting the pieces together. I love watching the story unfold and the solution come together; even though some of the stuff portrayed is pretty gruesome. I also love who-done-it novels for the same reason; solving the puzzle.
I think that is why I enjoy what I do. Every day I and the MatchMaker FundRaising Software team work with clients who are trying to build queries and reports for a committee meeting or send out a mailing to a select group. They need a solution and we get to help them solve the problem. The result is that we help our nonprofit clients more effectively communicate information and raise more money.
The programming of the software also intrigues me. Programming is a series of lines of code that enable the software to accomplish the best solution to obtain the results our nonprofit clients want and need. I consider my programmer a master puzzle solver. It is really fun to watch as he writes code and then hits a snag and has to find where the code is broken or not accomplishing the intended results. Just like putting that final piece in the puzzle; the last line of code on a special feature provides a smile on my face.
